Medication Disposal (Prescription Drug Drop-Off)

 

Old medications can be safely disposed of at a secure prescription drug drop-off box in the lobby of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Washington Township Substation, 8190 McEwen Road.

 

Unwanted medication can be dropped off from 8 am-4 pm, Monday through Friday. The lobby is closed on holidays. All loose pills should be placed in a sealed snack bag, such as a Ziploc bag, before being dropped off.

The following items are accepted for drop off:

  • Over-the-counter medications

  • Prescription medications, including legal narcotics

  • Herbal supplements

  • Veterinary medications

Medications are stored by the Sheriff's Office until they are collected for safe disposal by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

These items are NOT accepted: 

  • Biohazard materials

  • Illegal drugs 

  • Inhalers

  • Liquids

  • Needles or syringes

  • Sharps containers

Super Saturday Events

Residents also can dispose of expired and unwanted medications at periodic Super Saturday events. These events also include free document shredding. The program is anonymous, with no questions asked. Identifying information, drug name, and dosage information may be removed if desired. All types of medications are accepted. All loose pills should be placed in a sealed snack bag, such as a Ziploc bag, before being dropped off. For the safety of those involved in these events, absolutely no needles, sharps containers, or illegal substances will be accepted.
