The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Washington Township Substation promotes traffic safety through enforcement, deterrence, and education. A traffic services deputy is trained to respond to the scene of vehicular accidents and to provide thorough accident reconstruction reports.

Here are some of the most common requests about traffic:

Report a Traffic Violation: To report a traffic violation in progress, such as speeding, running a stop sign, hit and run accident, or reckless operation, call dispatch at 937-225-4357. For an ongoing traffic issue, call the traffic services deputy at the MCSO Washington Township Substation at 937-432-2751.
Report a Traffic Accident: Contact the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office to report an auto accident. If you believe someone may be injured, please call 911. If the accident has not resulted in injury, call the non-emergency line at 937-225-4357.
Obtain a Copy of an Accident Report: Accident reports can be obtained through the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Records Department by calling 937-225-4096. Reports are available after a minimum of 72 working hours. The cost is a flat fee of $4.
Traffic Citation and Court Information: Traffic matters are handled in Kettering Municipal Court at 2325 Wilmington Pike. For information, call 937-296-2461.

Civilian volunteers assist with directing traffic around crash scenes and with blocking off roads for downed trees, power lines, and major crashes. They also position the speed board in neighborhoods and help with vehicle counts at OVI checkpoints. Please contact the traffic services deputy at 937-432-2751 for more information.

Officers work overtime on traffic enforcement during holidays to help make sure that travel is safe. A grant from the Ohio Traffic Safety Office pays the overtime for officers to provide this high-visibility enforcement.

When residents express a concern about speeders on their streets, the MCSO Washington Township Substation positions a trailer with a speed board in the neighborhood. The speed board monitors vehicle speed and serves as a friendly reminder for motorists.

Washington Township's motorcycle improves traffic enforcement with its low profile, while its size and maneuverability enable it to respond quickly to traffic accidents where vehicles block the scene. The motorcycle also helps connect police to the community by making the officer riding it more approachable.

Conducted several times per year at varying locations, OVI checkpoints identify drivers who are operating a vehicle while impaired.

Checkpoints take place on roads that have experienced a high occurrence of alcohol-related crashes, deaths, or arrests. Funding comes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Sheriff's deputies share a program about seat belt safety with every third grader in Centerville-Washington Township.

Deputies focus on seat belt safety for two weeks each May, targeting drivers and occupants who are riding unrestrained. The national Click It or Ticket program includes banners and yard signs reminding motorists to buckle up.

In late August and early September, deputies participate in special enforcement activities for drunk driving and in a public education campaign that includes public service announcements and other reminders.
